Your hostess will take you from the hotel to the clinic. Once there, nurses will run the protocol’s preoperative guidelines and you will be interviewed by your anesthesiologist, that by this time, will have reviewed your medical history and previous evaluations. He will explain the anesthetic procedure and start your preoperative medication.

You will spend a total of about 80 minutes in the operating room. This time includes anesthetic medication and procedures, surgical instruments and monitors set-up, establishment of sterile fields, the gastric band placement, and recovery from anesthesia. The band placement, per se, takes about 20 minutes.

Once recovered from anesthesia, you will spend the rest of the day in your private room. Some patients refer no symptoms at all, but some experience mild abdominal discomfort, shoulder pain and nausea, walking is recommended as soon as possible.

Although minimally invasive surgery protocols of some university hospitals, allows the patient to be discharged even the same day that the procedure is performed, we like to closely monitor our patients the first 24 hours.
