Cardiologist evaluation to determine surgery risk and clear
teh patient for surgery.
After this phase, you will be taken to your hotel and the
surgical team will analyze your tests and other physician’s
notes.

Your hostess will take you from the hotel to the clinic. Once
there, nurses will run the protocol’s preoperative guidelines
and you will be interviewed by your anesthesiologist, that
by this time, will have reviewed your medical history and
previous evaluations. He will explain the anesthetic procedure
and start your preoperative medication.
You will spend a total of about 80 minutes in the
operating room. This time includes anesthetic medication
and procedures, surgical instruments and monitors set-up,
establishment of sterile fields, the gastric band placement,
and recovery from anesthesia. The band placement,
per se, takes about 20 minutes.
Once recovered from anesthesia, you will spend the rest of
the day in your private room. Some patients refer no symptoms
at all, but some experience mild abdominal discomfort, shoulder
pain and nausea, walking is recommended as soon as possible.
Although minimally invasive surgery protocols of some university
hospitals, allows the patient to be discharged even the same
day that the procedure is performed, we like to closely monitor
our patients the first 24 hours.

The day after your surgery a liquid diet
is indicated and you will be able to go back to your hotel.
Dr. Gutierrez will explain the immediate post-operative care,
as well as the care of your “new” stomach and
your new dietary habits A Balanced low calorie menu
for the upcoming weeks will be provided according to the gastric
band placement follow up protocol.

The last day of your protocol, a final physical examination
and your protocol is completed You are ready to go back home.
Two medications are prescribed: a broad spectrum antibiotic
and a non-steroid analgesic.
